Job Description

The College of Agricultural Sciences is seeking a highly motivated and positive individual to join our nationally recognized Penn State Extension team as Associate Director of Penn State Extension.

The College of Agricultural Sciences is seeking a highly motivated and positive individual to join our nationally recognized Penn State Extension team as Associate Director of Penn State Extension. The primary responsibility of the Associate Director is to ensure that Extension develops and delivers high quality extension educational programs and services. This is accomplished through direct supervision of the Assistant Directors of Programs (ADPs). As supervisor, lead the planning, prioritizing, budgeting, development, delivery and evaluation of programs, products and services. The successful candidate will provide senior-level leadership, stand in for the director as needed and lead organizational goals of interfacing research with educational programming. The individual will lead the implementation of the Program Development Process (PDP), a structured market assessment and program prioritization process and supervise the Evaluation Director. Approximately 50% of time will be spent leading the ADPs. Approximately 30% of their time developing programming strategies and processes. The remaining 20% of time will be focused on working with the Director, Dean and the Office of College Relations and Communications. Skills and Competencies: The individual must demonstrate the capacity to manage the overall program and product portfolio for Extension and understand program development and product life cycle management. The candidate must demonstrate excellence in leadership, communications, financial management and an understanding of academic research and teaching functions. The successful candidate must work well with faculty, educators and staff in translating knowledge into educational products for diverse audiences and working cooperatively among a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, industry, government and agency groups. Relationships: The Associate Director reports directly to the Associate Dean and Director of Extension, who reports to the Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences. Extension Educators are assigned to one of seven State Extension Units that are supervised by the ADPs. This person will work closely with academic unit leaders.
 
 
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in a field related to Agriculture, Food, Families and Health, Economic and Community Development or 4-H-Youth Development and a strong knowledge of Extension education and operations and possess an academic record that merits tenure being granted at Penn State.
  • Leadership and administrative experience are required.

 

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
