Job Summary

The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at Texas Tech University seeks a ninemonth tenure track assistant professor in Econometrics/Statistics/Data Science applied to agricultural, agribusiness and/or natural resource economics, or closely related fields conducting teaching, research and service.

The person filling this position will be expected to lead efforts to build quantitative analytics capacity in the Department including the development of curriculum and research programs that integrate data science with traditional quantitative tools used in Agricultural and Applied Economics. We are particularly interested in candidates working in areas that will complement our existing expertise in agricultural and natural resource economics, and engage in fruitful cross-disciplinary collaborations within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and across campus. We encourage applications from candidates with a demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving diverse populations.
Duties include teaching and advising undergraduate and graduate students, attracting external funding, publishing research results in reputed national and international peer reviewed journals. Service to the department, college, university, and community is expected.

  • A Ph.D. in Agricultural and Applied Economics, Agribusiness, Economics, Business Administration, Data Science, Statistics or a closely related field.
  • Excellent training in econometrics/ statistics/data science and microeconomics; preferably with experience applying Big Data analytics in applied economics, agribusiness management, marketing, logistics, finance, precision agriculture, or natural resources management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong record of scholarship supported by extramural funding and proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University.

The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics currently has 17 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 3 adjunct faculty members, 470 undergraduate students, and 73 graduate students. It offers B.S. degrees in Agribusiness and Agricultural and Applied Economics; M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural and Applied Economics, and a Masters of Agribusiness. The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources is comprised of seven academic departments. The College promotes and supports multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and interinstitutional research programs. Cooperative relationships exist between the College and Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension and USDA-ARS.
