Job Summary

The University of Kentucky is seeking a Director of Diversity Education and Inclusive Excellence. This position will be an integral team member in the Office for Institutional Diversity, serving as an innovative diversity and Inclusion educator supporting UK’s mission to be a place where everyone belongs and succeeds. Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Diversity, this position is charged with strategic leadership of diversity and inclusion education, program management and development of Unconscious Bias and other training programs, consultation and college and departmental representation, supervising training and administrative staff, as well as assessment and metric development. We are seeking a subject matter expert on a wide range of diversity and inclusion (D&I) related education, to expand upon current Unconscious Bias offerings, develop new content and engage students, faculty, staff, and broader community constituents to address specific educational and cultural competency needs.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Diversity, this position is charged with strategic leadership of diversity and inclusion education, program management and development of Unconscious Bias and other training programs, consultation and college and departmental representation, supervising training and administrative staff, as well as assessment and metric development. We are seeking a subject matter expert on a wide range of diversity and inclusion (D&I) related education, to expand upon current Unconscious Bias offerings, develop new content and engage students, faculty, staff, and broader community constituents to address specific educational and cultural competency needs.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Lead strategic planning and vision-setting efforts for enterprise-wide D&I curriculum creation to address the educational and cultural competency needs across the University
• Advise the Vice President and University leaders around diversity and inclusion education programs and best practices
• Work with partners on main campus and in UK HealthCare to create, implement, manage and regularly evaluate all D&I programs and D&I education-related strategies as they relate to various functions including recruitment, performance management, leadership development, and retention. 
• Develop metrics for measuring effectiveness and impact of trainings for diversity education
• Consult and coach college and departmental leadership and other managers to improve cross-cultural communication as well as work with those individuals to assess educational needs and identify solutions. 
• Update and expand a clear and compelling image for a centralized Institutional Diversity training unit 
• Oversee a department budget as well as supervise multiple professional and administrative staff members
• Manage community engagement and campus partnerships

In addition, UK was recently declared a “Best of the Best” Top 30 LGBTQ-friendly college by Campus Pride. We know there’s much more to do, and this position will be key to continuing education and outreach as well as expanding upon current efforts.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Significant experience in a diversity and inclusion role in higher education or related industry; demonstrated training and leadership abilities; strong communication, decision making, organizational skills, and diversity and Inclusion curricula design and implementation.

Preferred Education/Experience

Doctoral degree in education, social sciences, humanities, social work, or related area with diversity and inclusion and/or curriculum development focus.
