Position Summary:

The Marketing and Communication Intern will be part of our marketing and communications team to help develop and implement marketing strategies that increase the awareness of AFA among college students and professionals. The person in this role will play an instrumental role in executing the annual AFA Leaders Conference, regional AFA Leader Institutes, as well as the creation of creative marketing assets to serve a variety of stakeholders. The position will begin January 2022 at part-time hours for the spring semester with the transition to full-time hours in the summer and back to part-time hours in the fall of 2022.

 

Essential Functions:
 
Create effective social content that drives engagement and results across a variety of platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube).
• Assist and provide insight to overall website audit as well as editing and developing web content.
• Conduct interviews of student participants, industry professionals, AFA alumni and partners to write content that tells the AFA story in a compelling way specific to a variety of audiences.
• Analyze data to understand content performance (type, frequency, etc.) and develop recommendations on changes to social media plan to ensure appropriate progress on annual goals.
• Design marketing materials including but not limited to program booklets, one- and two-page handouts and post cards.
• Assist with planning various virtual and in-person events and conferences.
• Brainstorm & bring new ideas to the table.

• Strong writing, proof reading, and editing skills. Familiarity with AP writing style.

Required Education and Experience
• The ideal candidate would be a sophomore or junior undergraduate studying agricultural communications, public relations, marketing or related fields.
• Excellent working knowledge of social platforms — Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter.
• Experience with graphic design and photo/video editing capability.
• Strong writing skillset.
• Good understanding of social media key performance indicators.
• Reliable internet connectivity.
