Position Summary

Responsible for managing implementations of on-farm dairy equipment and technologies and acting as an in-house liaison between the third-party technology manufacturers, consultants, partnered farmers, local permitting bodies, and DMI project team. As Dairy Management Inc. continues to future-cast what consumers want and their expectations of agriculture and food, particularly in a global environment where climate impacts are top-of-mind in purchase decisions, we must prepare farmers and the dairy community for accelerated adoption and acceptance of technology-enabled farm systems and supply chains. Employees with background in managing technical builds will serve critical roles and complement the current DMI science and technology team.

This new position requires a candidate with project management and project administration experience with complex environmental agricultural systems. Responsible for managing implementations of on-farm dairy equipment and technologies and acting as an in-house liaison between the third-party technology manufacturers, consultants, partnered farmers, local permitting bodies, and DMI project team. Serves as an integral member of the Dairy Scale for Good initiative team, reporting to the Executive Director, Dairy Scale for Good initiative.

Manage project implementation on two pilot farms for the Dairy Scale for Good initiative. A strategic component of U.S. Dairy’s broader 2050 Environmental Goals and Net Zero initiative, this initiative is the successful integration and demonstration of advanced dairy farming technologies and practices designed to maximize the carbon sequestration potential of the nation’s largest dairy farms. This role will work collaboratively with developers, product vendors and Universities in the build out, operation, evaluation, and scale-up of national demonstration dairies and their environmental and economic benefits.

  • Execute on the initiative’s vision and mission
  • Manage implementation of the full suite of on-farm technologies that underpin the initiative including, but not limited to, processing and recovering liquid and solid industrial waste streams, renewable energy generation, water quality improvements, and product generation
  • Lead activities such as site permitting and vendor set-up for systems and equipment
  • Build and maintain trusted and productive relationships with third-party vendors, contractors, consultants, and partnered farmers by spending a significant amount of time in-field and on-site
  • Evaluate and report success of technology adoption to key stakeholders
  • Report and share information with Dairy Scale for Good initiative team and the Net Zero Initiative project team
  • Maintain awareness of competitive landscape, development, and opportunities for expansion

 

Undertake responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director (and/or at the request of CEO, President or EVP/Global Environmental Strategy) relating to broader environmental strategy, direction, and goals.

 

Requirements

Education & Experience (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, industrial), or project management
  • 5+ years of industry experience in engineering management or industrial construction project management
  • 2-5+ years of experience in applied sciences or engineering, with a focus on advanced technologies in agriculture and/or dairy

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong knowledge of engineering and manufacturing operations
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work well in a complex and evolving team environment
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, the implementation and evaluation of advanced technologies in agriculture and/or dairy
  • Strong skills and abilities in construction management
  • 25% domestic travel required
