Assistant Professor of Agricultural Education
The Department of Agricultural Education and Communications is one of seven departments within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Texas Tech University. The department is housed in an independent facility on the main campus in Lubbock, Texas. There are 13 faculty members in the department, all of whom contribute to the teaching, research, and service mission of the university. The department currently has over 250 undergraduate students and 75 graduate students. Faculty members within the department specialize in either Agricultural Education or Agricultural Communications. The Agricultural Education degree program has concentrations in Teacher Certification or Leadership. Master’s degrees are available in Agricultural Education and Agricultural Communications. A departmental Ph.D. program allows students to focus on any of the three areas and a distance-delivered Ed.D. program allows for continuing education of place-bound, mid-career professionals. In addition, graduate certificates are available in Agricultural Leadership and Agricultural Communications.
Position responsibilities will include: (a) developing and teaching graduate courses (including distance delivered courses) and undergraduate courses in Agricultural Education; (b) advising undergraduate and graduate students; (c) serving on departmental, college, and university committees; (d) conducting a focused research and scholarly activity program of national scope focused on agricultural education and/or agricultural leadership; and (e) securing extramural funding in support of a research and scholarly activity program.
The successful applicant will contribute to the graduate program by teaching graduate courses in the department, as well as teaching and advising in the Agricultural Education degree program at the undergraduate level. Additionally, they will collaborate with other departmental faculty to contribute to the teaching, scholarship, and engagement activities of the department.
Candidates who can demonstrate the potential for scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech are encouraged to apply. A doctoral degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Agricultural Education or related area is required. Experience in agricultural leadership, teacher preparation and/or international ag development is preferred. Advanced ABDs with strong potential for scholarly productivity and effective teaching will be considered. Experience working with diverse student populations is highly desirable.
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, 9- month, tenure-track academic appointment. It is expected that an additional 3 months of summer support can be realized through extramural funding and/or teaching.
