Position Summary  

FishChoice is currently hiring a Fishery Improvement Project
(FIP) Analyst to join the FisheryProgress FIP review team. We
are looking for candidates with a passion for environmental
sustainability and/or social responsibility, a keen attention to
detail, and exposure to fisheries, natural resource economics
and/or the seafood industry.

The FIP Analyst ensures the highest quality of FIP reviews to support FIP implementers who use the FisheryProgress website. They are a member of the FIP review team led by the FisheryProgress Program Manager and supported by the Social Responsibility Manager. The main goal of the FIP review team is to ensure that the information on FisheryProgress is consistent, accurate, and backed up by documentation and evidence, as outlined in the Conservation Alliance’s Guidelines for Supporting
Fishery Improvement Projects. Roughly half of the analyst’s time is spent working one-on-one with project implementers from all around the world in order to improve the quality and consistency
of progress reporting. The other half of the analyst’s time is dedicated to supporting the projects, systems, and processes that are necessary to ensure the success of FisheryProgress and its
stakeholders, including FIP implementers, seafood buyers, nongovernmental organizations, and others. The person in this position will play a significant role in shaping the application of global best practices in FIP environmental and social reporting. We seek candidates with a combination of relevant work
experience and education who can successfully perform the responsibilities outlined below.

 

Duties and responsibilities
Review documentation related to the initial launch of a FIP
and subsequent progress reporting, including:
o FIP profile information (i.e., objectives, species, gear
type(s), location, volume, etc.), assessments (i.e., Marine
Stewardship Council (MSC) pre-assessments and social
risk assessments, etc.) and workplans (i.e., scoping
documents, environmental and social workplans, etc.)
for validity and alignment.
o Information provided to demonstrate progress in
implementing actions outlined in workplans, confirming
that evidence is accurate, meets quality standards, and
supports the results proposed by the FIP implementer.
o Information provided on environmental and social
indicator scoring changes, determining if any score
changes are legitimate and backed up with credible
evidence.
• Provide customer service to and build positive, productive
relationships with FIP implementers.
• Act as a resource for FIP implementers by providing guidance
and feedback in order to help ensure that all data are
accurate and to address any problems or red flags with
submitted materials. This may include conducting webinars,
in-person and online trainings/presentations, 1:1 coaching
sessions, etc.
• Assist with development, implementation, evaluation, and
innovation of/on/for FisheryProgress. FisheryProgress is
constantly evolving and upgrading, and requires feedback
and testing on a regular basis.
• Lead specific projects that help increase impact and improve
the site for users and FIP implementers. Examples projects
include developing a database of social and environmental
consultants eligible to support FIPs, conducting research on
local trade and labor unions in key FIP regions, supporting
revision of the FisheryProgress Review Guidelines or Human
Rights and Social Responsibility Policy, developing new
training and drafting new guidance, supporting organizational
knowledge management.

 
Required Qualifications
Expertise/experience with the Marine Stewardship Council
standard and/or other environmental or social standards
• Basic knowledge of fisheries or marine science, fisheries
management, natural resources policy, and/or social
responsibility in fisheries
• Experience working with people from other countries,
cultures, and languages
• Highly organized and demonstrates exemplary attention to
detail
• Commitment to accuracy, quality control, and providing
superior support
• Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills,
including experience successfully navigating delicate
situations
• Excellent professional writing, editing and research skills
• Proactive with a problem-solving mentality
• Ability to meet deadlines and to manage multiple projects
simultaneously
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Willingness to travel within the US and internationally several
times a year, and willingness to work a flexible schedule,
including accomodating different time zones
• Ability to work on a small team and across organizational
teams to achieve organizational goals

Experience with fishery improvement projects and/or
supporting improvements in the environmental and social
performance of fisheries
• Experience working with technology in order to manage
website content and site users
• Demonstrated success with project management, including
identifying a goal, creating a and implementing a project plan,
conducting evaluation & adaptation, and achieving
measurable results
• Proficiency in a second language, especially Spanish,
Mandarin, or Bahasa Indonesia

The annual salary range for this position is $65-70,000. Benefits & perks include:

This is a full-time, remote position based in the U.S. International
candidates will be considered as contractors. FishChoice is headquartered in Fort Collins, Colorado and we have teammates in California, Oregon, and Illinois.
