Position Summary  

As the Social Media Outreach Specialist, you will focus on leading the strategy and execution for all Division of Fish & Wildlife social media channels. This includes managing, monitoring, planning, and creating content on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to inform and educate the public about the Division’s mission, programs, services, events, news, and other updates. The position works closely with the public engagement team, and you will collaborate with staff to advance the mission and goals of the Division. This includes leading special projects and sharing generalist duties on a team of several members.

Salary Information:

This role starts at a base salary of $37,778; however, salary may be commensurate with experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Manage content, activity, and engagement across Division social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) for the purpose of informing and educating the public about the Division’s mission. Develop and manage a social media calendar.
  • Develop long-term vision, goals, and strategy to grow social media and cultivate an engaged community online. 
  • Create, schedule, and publish content and copy that is engaging, authentic, and aligned with the Division’s brand that encourages customer engagement.
  • Collaborate with staff and teams within the Division to plan and execute proactive and reactive campaigns when appropriate. 
  • Monitor and respond to social media posts in a timely, respectful, accurate, and informative manner, providing excellent customer service across all social media channels.
  • Develop goals and performance metrics for social media campaigns, measuring and monitoring regularly to understand effectiveness of strategies and identify new strategies and tactics to increase meaningful engagement.
  • Develop monthly social media reports on key metrics, reporting insights and results to internal team members and leadership.
  • Serve as the voice of the Division, ensuring a consistent voice and appropriate personality and look and feel across all social media channels.
  • Consult with subject matter experts during planning and development of campaigns and content to ensure information accuracy and content diversity before publishing to social media channels. 
  • Remain up to date on social media trends and platforms. Stay informed on changing and emerging technology regarding social media and marketing efforts to new and existing audiences.
  • Research, identify and define target audiences and potential influencers. 
  • Participate on Department and Division workgroups as the advisor on fish and wildlife outreach, education, and communication issues in relation to the Division’s social media strategy.
  • Act as a Division liaison with Division of Communications staff to ensure accurate fish and wildlife-related information is shared on social media and through Department and Division marketing efforts.

What You'll Need for Success:
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in marketing, journalism, communications, public relations, biology, wildlife management, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience creating digital strategy for multiple social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
  • Excellent communicator who is a proactive, collaborative, problem solver that builds relationships across teams.
  • Ability to analyze data, trends, and social conversations to inform planning and development.
  • Strong copywriting skills and editorial judgement. 
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, database management, presentation design, social media, web design, and desktop publishing.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize variable workloads.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems and implement creative solutions that address many differing points of views.
  • Experience or interest in natural resources, conservation and/or fish and wildlife is a plus. 
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Google Suite, Google Ads, and Facebook Business Manager. 
  • Ability and willingness to own and lead projects end to end.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
