Job Description:
Oversee and nurture KBO’s growing Science Communications, Science Interpretation & Delivery; Community Education & Outreach; Community Science; Partnerships; and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Environmental Justice programs. Through these programs, help Klamath Bird Observatory achieve our mission by fostering local, regional, national, and international collaborations as we work with the bird conservation community to build an unprecedented, diverse, equitable, and inclusive coalition to address the bird crisis through science driven conservation efforts that are based on the fundamental pillars of sustainability -- environment, equity, and economy.
- Build a more inclusive and diverse bird conservation community through KBO and partner programs by modeling the social benefits of bird conservation, including improved health, economic security, and social justice.
- Communicate and collaborate with, targeted audiences, including natural resource managers, public representatives, a diversity of community members, and KBO supporters.
- Ensure effective science delivery in support of informed and sustainable natural resource management decision making.
- Produce and distribute high quality communications through online platforms and (e.g., websites, blogs) social media (e.g., FaceBook, Twitter, Instgram, etc), printed materials, and public and personal engagement.
- Offer inclusive community education and community science opportunities that foster an appreciation for birds, enhance interest in and support of science-driven conservation, and diversify the bird conservation community.
- Develop and integrate new and existing diversity, equity, and inclusion objectives through organizational in-reach and outreach.
- Promote KBO to increase access to our services, strengthen our reputation, and build resources in support of our work.
- Collaborate with journalism community to widen the reach of KBO communications through various news and media outlets (e.g., newspaper, magazine, radio, TV spots).
- Manage communications projects and product delivery.
- Assists with fundraising.
Applicants should have a strong interest in birds, science, and ecosystem conservation. Applicants should have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences, Human Dimensions of Natural Resources, Communications, Marketing, Environmental Sciences, Journalism, Education, or a related field with a minimum of four years of project management experience. - Must provide and maintain own transportation, a valid driver’s license, and meet minimum insurance requirements.
- Ability to successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check.
- Effective June 21, 2021, and until further notice, KBO will require that all Employees and Student Interns be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, and be able to provide proof of vaccination status.
