Livestock & Veterinary Science Program Educator
As part of MSU Extension (MSUE) and the Children and Youth Institute (CYI), this position provides leadership and expertise in 4-H livestock and veterinary science programs. This position will have statewide responsibilities and will collaborate with the Science work team, the Department of Animal Science, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Agriculture and Agribusiness Institute, and community groups for overall advancement of the needs of the clientele.
In this position, you will identify, design, implement and evaluate educational programs that meet outreach needs related to 4-H livestock (beef, sheep, swine, and goats) and veterinary science programs. The programs include animal care education, career awareness, work force preparation and leadership development. Through your leadership, you will work with MSU faculty and staff, 4-H volunteers, and stakeholders to provide leadership for 4-H program initiatives, and foster relationships with the livestock and veterinary science industries, youth educators, and diverse communities throughout Michigan. Statewide travel and some regional and national travel will be required.
Through collaboration in research, engagement with community members, and dissemination of research through various methods, including in-person and multimedia programming and written communications, you will implement programs that lead to public knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that allow for youth to develop leadership potential, self-esteem, values, citizenship responsibility and productive capacity. You will also develop, produce, and deliver livestock and veterinary science outreach materials with messaging and content that is accessible and inclusive and is consistent with CYI, as well as the Department of Animal Science messaging.
Your work will include close collaboration with colleagues at MSU, as well as the diverse network of partner groups that include producers and key stakeholders within the animal agriculture industries. Although negotiable, there will be space available for this position to work from Anthony Hall, on the campus of MSU.
• Master’s degree in agriculture, animal science, veterinary science or related field.
