Position Summary  

As part of MSU Extension (MSUE) and the Agriculture and Agribusiness Institute (AABI), this position provides leadership and educational programming expertise in field crop production. This position will have statewide responsibilities and will collaborate across work teams, Institutes
and community groups, working with faculty, specialists and educators for
overall advancement of the needs of the Institute clientele.


 


 

Duties and responsibilities

In this position, you will identify, design, implement and evaluate educational
programs that meet outreach needs related to sustainable production of field
crops, including corn, soybeans, wheat, dry beans, sugar beets and other
agronomic crops as needed. Through your leadership, you will act as a
subject matter specialist and work collaboratively with work team members,
MSU service units, allied industry and farmers, to design, implement, deliver
and evaluate educational programming to meet high priority needs of
clientele. This will include, but not be limited to an on-going on-farm soybean
research program, in collaboration with MSUE field staff and commodity
partners, and developing educational programming related to the adoption of
precision agriculture technologies in the field crop industries. Additionally,
work can include crop and pest scouting, and reporting that information to the
industry, and troubleshooting field level challenges.

Through collaboration in research, engagement with clientele, and
dissemination of research through various methods, including in-person and
multimedia programming and written communications, you will explore and
implement programs that lead to knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that will
improve the efficiency and sustainability of field crop production. You will also
develop, produce, and deliver field crop production related outreach materials
with messaging and content that is accessible and inclusive and is consistent
with AABI messaging.


Although negotiable, there will be space available for this position to work
from the Tuscola County Extension office, Caro, Michigan, with flexibility to
work from one of several county MSU Extension Offices in the “Thumb”
region of Michigan.

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to
Agronomy, Soil Science or related field must be earned by date of hire.
