Position Summary 
The Regenerative Food Systems Manager will apply best practices in project management and coordination to ensure the successful completion of project phases on time, on budget and to the specifications required by the project stakeholders and funder(s). Under the supervision of the TNC North America Agriculture Director, the Manager will be responsible for advancing the implementation of the project activities to meet outcomes, identify and develop key performance indicators, monitor and measure project progress, seek solutions and conduct corrective actions as necessary, communicate information to stakeholders, and optimally align strategies, processes, and tools. They will perform risk management, issue resolution, and conflict management, collaboratively solve complex problems, and ensure all organizational and divisional standards are met. The Manager will be responsible for project coordination, meeting planning and facilitation, managing contracts, tracking budgets and deliverables, and will serve as the main project liaison for all partners and TNC staff.

Transformational global change starts with local change. TNC’s North America Agriculture team and Global Regenerative Food Systems team are working to better understand the complexity that underpins our global food system as a first step toward changing it. A foodscape is a distinct food production geography with specific combinations of biophysical characteristics and management attributes. The Regenerative Food Systems Manager will be responsible for managing activities associated with the siting, assessment and planning of a Midwest Foodscape Project. The position will report to the NA Agriculture program but will also work closely with the Director of Regenerative Food Systems, the Center for Sustainability Science, and staff from state chapters in the Midwest. The Manager will oversee a collaboration with an external consultant and serve as key liaison to external partners. To be successful in this position, the Regenerative Food Systems Manager will provide process leadership and analytical support to achieve the goals of the project while ensuring alignment with the NA Agriculture program’s strategic plan to catalyze transformational systems change in U.S. agriculture. This is a 16-month grant funded position with the possibility for an extension to further support the NA Agriculture strategy subject to funding and successful execution of the project.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Lead implementation of a 16-month Midwest Foodscape assessment and the day-to-day operations of this collaborative, complex and high-profile project, including managing project teams, setting deadlines, and coordinating communications.
- Provide accountability for project deliverables and project monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
- Work with staff from across the organization and provide support to organization leadership
serve as point of contact for global Regenerative Food System staff, North America Agriculture staff, U.S. state chapter staff, external project stakeholders, and others as necessary.
- Does not supervise any staff but will take a leadership role in interdepartmental teams to coordinate the work of peers

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BA/BS degree in agriculture, environmental science, conservation, or related field and 7 years’ experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.
- Experience in partnership development with non-profits, agricultural organizations, community groups, agribusinesses, food companies, food distributors, biofuel producers (that is the demand side of corn and increasingly soy production) and/or government agencies.
- Experience with social and emotional intelligence by successfully engaging and motivating others to support a new path forward, building energy and involvement to sustain results over time.
- Experience with time management.
- Facilitative leadership experience and ability to motivate and facilitate collaborative progress towards shared project objectives.
- Experience in negotiating and influencing, finding intersections when implementing complex plans with diverse partners.
- Experience presenting to and/or communicating to diverse audiences including community or business leaders, program leadership, government agency staff, and/or similar audiences.
- Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
 
 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- Master’s degree and 5-10 years’ experience in conservation practice, systems architecture, project management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of current topics and trends in agriculture in the Midwest, including food systems and biofuel demand.
- Ability to sensitively advise other staff on how to effectively engage with internal and external parties.
- Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
- Politically savvy.
- Exposure to various cultures, geographies, nationalities, ethnicities and points of view, appreciating the basis of each person’s worldview.
- Exposure to various economic sectors to appreciate the vastness of experience and expertise of others outside their field of interest, such as financial, health, manufacturing, technology, government, bioscience, education, etc.
- Demonstrated respect for committing to local, on-the-ground involvement with people, communities and cultures, with awareness and sensitivity to their economic realities.
- Active listening skills, including awareness of body language and physical-mental-emotional linkages. Curiosity for the motivations of all parties, seeking intersections among differing perspectives and viewpoints.
- Capacity to advocate successfully using science and data, communicate with authenticity and credibility and exert influence by being a role model for people, programs and ethics.
- Ability to engage others through dynamic, empathetic and articulate presentations and dialogue, conveying contagious enthusiasm that engenders a shared vision for the future.
