Position Summary 
The UDC serves as one of the principle contacts with government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations and the academic community. The UDC may play a leading role in donor identification, cultivation and stewardship for the Utah Chapter, working to raise both public and private funds. The UDC disseminates best practices, provides training and analyses to best implement organizational measures of success, and develops partnerships with public and private organizations key stakeholders, science leaders and conservation practitioners in order to achieve TNC’s land and water protection goals in Utah. The UDC engages local community support for local conservation efforts, negotiates complex and innovative solutions with government agencies and landowners to conserve and protect natural communities, and develops and implements conservation strategies.
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
 
• Recruits, retains and manages high quality and effective multi-disciplinary staff with responsibility for performance management, training and career development.
• Helps to develop long-term strategies and achieve strategic goals and objectives.
• Plays a lead role in implementing the government relations, public policy and legislative goals of the Utah Chapter and Global Organization.
• Serves as a senior member of the Utah Staff Leadership Team.
• Works as a staff liaison to the Utah Chapter Board on conservation issues.
• May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
• Makes independent strategic decisions frequently based on analysis, ambiguous information, experience and judgment.
• May require frequent travel domestically and/or internationally and evening and weekend hours.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 
• BA/BS degree and 10 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
• Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
• A valid driver’s license.
