Oregon State University invites applicants for a full-time
Assistant Professor of Practice position in the
Department of Animal and Rangeland SciencesThe OSU Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Extension program and the OSU Forestry & Natural Resources Extension program invite applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Assistant Professor of Practice position in the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at Oregon State University. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Program Leaders.

This Assistant Professor of Practice position will be stationed in Burns, Oregon. The academic home for this position will be the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences with the College of Agricultural Sciences. Active contributions to scholarship are required (see the scholarship duties section, below, for details).
 
This rangeland position is designed to focus on Extension program development and delivery related to wildland fire science and management. The position will focus on educational programming to assist private rangeland managers, grazing permitees, wildland-urban interface homeowners, communities, and fire and fuel specialists and the fire prevention and suppression workforce.
 
Key topics will include collaborative natural resource management, Fire Adapted Communities, Community Wildfire Protection Plans, wildland fire fuel reduction as related to grazing management, prescribed burning, and range management treatments to build fire resistance and resilience, post-burn recovery, Firewise programming, and fire workforce development.
 
The position will work directly with faculty in both the OSU Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Extension program and the OSU Forestry & Natural Resources Extension program and with the statewide Rangeland Outreach Coordinator in Burns at the Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center (EOARC). This faculty member will be a team member of the Forestry & Natural Resources Extension Fire Program and work directly with the five other Regional Fire Specialists, State Fire Specialist, and the Fire Program Manager. The position will also work cooperatively with external partners such as the Tribes, Oregon Cattlemen’s Association, Burea of Land Management (BLM), Harney County Wildfire Collaborative, Oregon Department of State Lands, ODFW , ODF, USFS, and USFWS, The Nature Conservancy, Sustainable Northwest, Northwest Fire Science Consortium, Oregon Prescribe Fire Council, local fire departments and fire protection districts, and the State Fire Marshal’s office to develop partnerships and facilitate landscape-scale, cross-boundary management projects.
