Job Description 
The Assistant Director will assist the Director of OMP and others in the development and execution of a comprehensive approach to diversity/inclusion - related programs and services designed to build a culturally intelligent and inclusive community within the college.
 
The Office of Multicultural Programs (OMP), in the College of Agriculture, is seeking a dynamic, self-starter interested in joining our organization as an Assistant Director. The Assistant Director will assist the Director of OMP and others in the development and execution of a comprehensive approach to diversity/inclusion - related programs and services designed to build a culturally intelligent and inclusive community within the college.
 
This individual must have strong practical experience in project management. The Assistant Director is expected to conceive, organize, and serve as a team lead, delegate tasks to other team members and be responsible for the review of work product. This individual will have a functional supervision responsibility for employees while serving as a “working committee chair" to promote and implement effective programmatic initiatives to broaden our efforts to include a narrative focused on achieving academic and institutional excellence that positions our faculty, staff and students to be more competitive in today’s global marketplace.
 
This individual will be responsible for organizing and leading existing programs and activities in accordance with the missions and goals of the College of Agriculture,  developing, implementing and leading new programs to support the strategic direction of the college’ diversity, equity and inclusion goals and ensuring goals are met through strategic assessment of program impact for administrators, faculty, staff and students. The goal is to ensure that all programs deliver the desirable outcomes to our organization. In order to achieve a more robust and integrated diversity approach that builds on prior diversity and inclusion models and operates in a strategic, evidence-based and data-driven manner, where accountability is paramount.
 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate, develop and lead programing with the Diversity Action Team in Agriculture
  • Coordinate and facilitate participation of faculty and professional staff in educational forums for professional development
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to infuse intercultural competencies into their coursework and programs
  • Assist with grant writing and generate appropriate reports (budgets, expenditures) for specific program areas
  • Facilitates the Administration of the IDI (Intercultural Development Inventory) for faculty and staff
  • Communicates with contacts typically within and outside the department on matters that typically involve obtaining or providing information on matters of significant importance to the organization
  • Provides measurable input to new processes, programs, and operational plans and influences others to accept new concepts, practices and approaches
  • Uses strategic assessment processes to evaluate and make changes or enhancements in systems and processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness of level area
  • Collaborate with the Agriculture Research and Graduate Education (ARGE) Office to provide assistance on program assessment, grant writing, support and retention programs, and data collection and analysis for URM graduate students.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Intercultural Learning, Mentoring, Assessment and Research (CILMAR) and the Center for Instructional Excellence (CIE) to provide College wide professional development and assessments for Faculty and Staff in the area of intercultural competence and learning
  • Develop and track metrics to measure and assess the effectiveness of the college’s diversity and inclusion program
  • Publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals; and presenting papers/posters at academic conferences. Examples of possible conferences include: WISE, HICE, NACTA, NCORE, NAME, and AERA
  • Assist the Dean/Director with lectures, labs and technology for the Multicultural Understanding requirement for the College of Agriculture
  • Maintain and update OMP website and hallway monitor
  • Serve in place of the Director as needed for meetings, travel and representation of the department
  • May supervise, evaluate and motivate clerical and student staff to ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly and efficiently

Required:
  • Master’s degree
  • 4 years of relevant experience in multicultural, diversity, inclusion, and/or similar program management or administrative experience in a higher education setting
  • Proven record of creating and delivering innovative programming
  • Certified IDI Administrator or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
  • Advanced intercultural competency and comfort level interacting with diverse groups of individuals, both internal and external to the University
  • Vast working knowledge of current and historical theories, practices, and trends related to diversity and inclusion in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple projects and priorities with a high degree of professionalism, attention to detail, and follow through as well as flexibility and collegiality
  • Recognized specialist in diversity, equity and inclusion  
  • Ability and desire to thrive while working independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with faculty, staff and graduate students from diverse backgrounds
  • Skills in researching, writing, and competing for external grants/funding for the office
 
Preferred:
  • Experience working with student organizations focused on student-led approaches to cultural diversity, social action, or closely related topics in a collegiate setting
