Job summary

Multicultural Programs Assistant Director will be responsible for increasing the representation and contribution of underrepresented minority students and first generation college students within the College of Agriculture through developing effective recruitment and retention strategies and advising the student organization.

The Office of Multicultural Programs is seeking a Multicultural Programs Assistant Director. This position will be responsible for increasing the representation and contribution of underrepresented minority students and first generation college students within the College of Agriculture through developing effective recruitment and retention strategies and advising the student organization. This position will also enhance cultural awareness and appreciation for a diverse, multicultural faculty, staff, and student population within the College of Agriculture, foster a welcoming environment for all students in the College of Agriculture as well as meet the goals of the College by increasing diversity among faculty, staff, and students.

 

Additional duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Representing CoA to diverse audiences in high schools, at college fair programs, on campus, and through a range of online media

  • Preparing and participating in all recruitment efforts
  • Maintaining relationships with secondary school officials and partnership programs on behalf of the college
  • Utilizing creativity and innovation to develop new programs to facilitate the orientation and socialization for multicultural students
  • Liaise with key campus constituents to help matriculated students successfully transition to CoA
  • Serving as co-advisor for MANRRS -Purdue (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences) student organization and activities
  • Improving campus visibility of MANRRS- Purdue and multicultural students within the College of Agriculture

  •  
  • Directing and implementing all summer programs for K-12, science teachers and undergraduate research

  • Providing overall leadership in collaboration with the faculty and staff in the college and Purdue's graduate school

  • Collaborating with the Office of Academic Programs (OAP) to provide assistance on program assessment, grant writing, support and retention programs, and data collection and analysis

  • Assisting with grant writing and generate appropriate reports for specific program areas

  • Serving as coordinator/advisor of the Purdue Emerging Leader Scholars and 21st Century Scholars and other programs

  • Serving as liaison to and resource for academic advising, the College diversity office, and other campus-wide services

  • Serving on Agriculture Scholarship and Diversity Outreach Committees within the Office of Academic Programs (OAP), the College and University and coordinate participation of underrepresented minority students in educational forums

  • Assisting the Dean/Director with lectures, labs and technology for the Multicultural Awareness requirement for the College of Agriculture

 
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree

  •  4 years of experience in planning, coordinating, recruiting and working with minority groups

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment

  • Ability to work under pressure, plan and accomplish goals

  • Ability to work closely with a diverse and multicultural population

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with college aged students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds

  • Researching, writing, and competing for external grants/funding for the office skills

  •  Travel
