POSITION SUMMARY

The North Carolina Chapter is a leader in protecting and restoring critical lands, securing water for nature and people, sustaining ocean resources, and advancing climate solutions.  The Conservation Coordinator works in the chapter’s main office and provides administrative and other general assistance to staff working in Durham and satellite offices to achieve the organization’s conservation goals.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides general support for Conservation Program staff, including: managing vehicle ownership, preparing presentations and reports, organizing meetings, processing invoices, ordering materials and equipment, assisting with grant applications, and handling miscellaneous office tasks and errands.
  • Supports management of Nature Conservancy preserves
  • Stewards TNC’s landholdings in the Piedmont region
  • Assists Chapter Board of Trustees by acting as Trustee Liaison for the NC Chapter, compiling board books, and providing logistical support for meetings.
  • Provides occasional administrative support to the chapter’s State Director and Director of Government Relations.
  • Shares responsibility for answering office’s main phone line.  Responds to general phone calls, especially inquiries from potential land donors.  Draft routine business correspondence.
  • Supervises no staff but may oversee and direct work of office volunteers or interns.
  • Coordinates multiple tasks or projects in a timely manner and with attention to detail.
  • The Conservation Coordinator may occasionally work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, natural resources management or related field and 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, especially Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. 
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects.
  • Experience handling standard business communications.
