About the Department:
The Department of Agricultural Education and Communications is one of six departments within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Texas Tech University. The department is housed in an
independent facility on the main campus in Lubbock, Texas. There are 13 faculty members in the department, all of whom contribute to the teaching, research, and service mission of the university. The department currently
has 250 undergraduate students and 76 graduate students.
Faculty members within the department specialize in one of three disciplinary areas: Teacher Education, Agricultural Communications, and Agricultural Leadership.
Master’s degrees are available in Agricultural Education and Agricultural Communications. A departmental Ph.D.
program allows students to focus on any of the three areas and an Ed.D. program which allows for continuing education of place-bound, midcareer professionals. In addition, graduate certificates are available in Agricultural Leadership and Agricultural Communications.

The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR:http://www.casnr.ttu.edu/) includes the departments of Agricultural and Applied Economics, Agricultural Education and Communications,
Animal and Food Sciences, Landscape Architecture, Plant and Soil Science, and Natural Resources Management, along with multiple research centers and institutes. For the most recent academic year, the College had 1,620 undergraduates, and 390 M.S. and Ph.D. students. The annual operating budget is more than $10 million, with approximately $15
million annually in research funding.

Position responsibilities will include:
(a) developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (including distance delivered courses)
(b) advising undergraduate and graduate students
(c) the possibility of teaching courses in agricultural systems management
(d) supervising student teachers; (e) serving on departmental, college, and university committees
(f) conducting a focused research and scholarly activity program of national scope focused on agricultural education
(g) securing extramural funding in support of a research and scholarly activity program; and
(h) student organization advising.
The successful applicant will be a faculty member in Agricultural Education and Communications and will team with the department’s teacher preparation faculty, as well as other departmental faculty, to complete the teaching, scholarship, and engagement activities of the department.
Candidates who have very strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech are encouraged to apply. Service to the department, college, university, professional societies, and stakeholder groups is expected.
- Doctoral degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Agricultural Education, or related area. An interest in teacher preparation and STEM integration is preferred.
- Advanced ABDs with strong potential for scholarly productivity and effective teaching will be considered. Candidates must have three years of previous experience as a secondary agricultural education teacher.
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, 9- month, tenure-track academic appointment. It is expected that an additional 3 months of summer support can be realized through extramural
funding or teaching.
