Job Summary

This position will also be responsible for determining local needs involving AFNR programming and will provide technical assistance and information in the area of crops, livestock, agricultural business management, and horticulture, as well as oversight of the Master Gardener program.

ABOUT THIS POSITION
Nicollet and Sibley Counties are located southwest of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Gaylord is the County seat in Sibley County and St. Peter is the county seat in Nicollet County. Crop income outpaces livestock income in in Sibley County, whereas, in Nicollet County it is the reverse. The two counties are the largest counties producing eggs and pullets in Minnesota. Dairy, hogs and beef are the other major livestock in the two counties.
 
We are looking for candidates with skills and experience in: engaging stakeholders in agriculture developing and strengthening networks and teaching and facilitating informal educational agricultural and horticultural programs that are relevant to Nicollet and Sibley Counties. This support will involve local program development, delivery, marketing, evaluation, coordination of logistics and possibly participation in scholarly research. This position will also be responsible for determining local needs involving AFNR programming and will provide technical assistance and information in the area of crops, livestock, agricultural business management, and horticulture, as well as oversight of the Master Gardener program.
 
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred. At least one degree in an agriculture related discipline is required, i.e. livestock production, agronomy, soils, agricultural economics, or agricultural education.
 
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to create new educational programs based upon past successes or failures.
  • A proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and collaborations with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders, including those that may have diverse missions, goals, cultures, and backgrounds
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Skilled in technology and in using programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
 
Appointment also requires:
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle to provide own means of transportation throughout the state, and appropriate vehicle insurance.
  • Reliable cell phone to be used and number published publicly.
  • Access to a reliable internet connection and ability to work remotely when Extension offices are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
