Job Description

The Department of Entomology at the University of Kentucky is seeking a broadly trained entomologist who will address the integrated management of arthropods (e.g., ticks and mosquitoes) that vector diseases affecting humans and animals. This combined research and extension position is located on the University of Kentucky Campus, Lexington, KY. Areas of applied research and extension emphasis could include development and implementation of integrated methods for surveillance, speciation, pathogen diagnosis and control of arthropod vectors of human and animal/livestock diseases. As part of a team of faculty members from Entomology, Animal Sciences and Veterinary science departments in College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and from Colleges of Medicine and Public Health, this individual is expected to develop a nationally and internally competitive research program and actively pursue external funding opportunities. This individual will develop and implement educational/outreach programs to support county-based extension personnel and other stakeholder groups, conduct problem-solving research to provide evidence-based vector management recommendations to stakeholders and cooperate in multi-disciplinary and/or inter-institutional teams. The incumbent is also expected to participate in mentoring of graduate students and the graduate education program in Entomology, Animal Sciences and Veterinary science departments. Publication in peer-reviewed journals and extension publications is also expected.

  • PhD in Entomology or related discipline.
Required Experience and Skills:
  • Demonstrated experience in applied ecology and integrated pest/vector management; excellent oral and written communication skills; use of common computer technologies and innovative use of social media; and experience with extension.

Preferred Education:
Post-doctoral training, experience as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, and expertise in one or more of these commodity areas are desirable, but not essential.
