Position Summary  

The University of Missouri Division of Animal Sciences and
Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology seeks to expand its expertise in
immunology and influenza research by hiring a talented Assistant or Associate Professor.
The incumbent will collaborate closely with the faculty in the Division of Animal Sciences of
the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (https://animalsciences.missouri.edu/) and the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology

(https://medicine.missouri.edu/departments/molecular-microbiologyimmunology) as well as colleagues in the new MU Center for Somatic Cell Gene Editing,
Center for Influenza and Emerging Infectious Diseases, and National Swine Research and
Resource Center. This position is also critical to the MU-USDA ARS Livestock Genetic
Engineering Program, and NextGen Precision Health initiative in the University of Missouri
System (https://precisionhealth.umsystem.edu/). The University of Missouri is an AAU
member, Carnegie R1 institution, and one of the most comprehensive land grant
universities in the nation that includes agriculture, human medicine, and veterinary

Duties and responsibilities

We seek a dynamic individual who will lead an extramurally funded
research program, train doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, provide academic
service on campus, and contribute to undergraduate and/or graduate education. The
desired focus of the research is on swine immunology and/or influenza research to
enhance our understanding of influenza and emerging infectious diseases. The successful
candidate will be expected to develop or possess a robust, collaborative, externally funded
research program.

minimum Qualifications
 

A Ph.D., D.V.M., DVM/PhD, M.D, or MD/PhD degree with
postdoctoral training or equivalent training in immunology, infectious disease, animal
sciences, or a related discipline.

 

Candidate will be Evaluated on: A competitive candidate will possess excellent written
and verbal communication skills to facilitate research and teaching. Applicants for an
Assistant Professor position must have a record of achievement and productivity and also
demonstrate the potential to establish and maintain a robust externally funded research
program. Applicants for an Associate Professor position must have an established
extramurally funded research program and with a strong record of peer-reviewed
publications and national/international recognition.


An ability to communicate well in a research and educational setting; and evidence of past
research collaborations or a willingness to work in related research areas. Individuals with
interest in utilizing animal genetic models for basic and translational research are
specifically sought and encouraged to apply.
