Postdoctoral Associate Position in Wildlife Molecular Ecology at Yale University
The Applied Wildlife Ecology (AWE) Lab in the Yale School of the Environment invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in Wildlife Molecular Ecology. The successful candidate will assist with protocol develop and implication leverage existing carnivore fecal samples as well as future collected soil and snow samples to understand spatial and temporal variation in prey consumption and availability. This work contributes to a new National Science Foundation-funded project (#2140322) on risk management in Detroit coyotes under the supervision of Prof. Nyeema C. Harris. At the frontier of behavioral and urban ecology, results from this project will garner new insights on how resources govern risk assessment, discrimination, and mitigation in apex predators living in cities where 81% of US residents live.
The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. focusing on topics in molecular ecology with exceptional research, writing, and verbal communication skills as well as an inclusive and flexible approach to collaborating with a diverse team of individuals and organizations. Experience with next-generation sequencing, metabarcoding, and eDNA are required. This is a one-year position with an expected reappointment for two additional years upon outstanding performance. The hire will be expected to perform sample processing and molecular analyses, co-author papers, mentor students, and contribute to public engagement and efforts to broaden participation. In addition to a competitive salary and full research support, the successful candidate will receive an annual professional development budget for additional trainings and scouting trips for future research based on their interests.
