The inaugural Alabama Jr. MANRRS Leadership Institute - hosted by Auburn University with collaboration from Michelle Cole and the Auburn University MANRRSS Chapter.
The 2-day event provided students with an opportunity to interact with faculty and experts on leadership and college preparation. The goal was to encourage students in grades 7-12 to attend college and pursue agriculture, natural resources, and environmental science degrees. The program provided activities to help youth discover firsthand how agriculture, engineering, and technology relate to the world around them and discover the excitement of academic excellence, leadership, technical development, and teamwork.
The total attendance of 169 including 132 students from nearly 40 schools and 43 parents, speakers and volunteers. Exhibitors included AU Admissions, AU SFWS, COSAM, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Army Corp of Engineers, National MANRRS, and US Forest Service, AU Outreach. In addition, we are extremely grateful for the in-kind support received from LaRay Martin Transportation, Marcus Washington, Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Alabama, USDA Veterinary Services, and Weyerhaeuser.
